Cultural Event
Two days ago I went to Walter Wicks expo at the museum of arts at BYU. I enjoyed it so much that I went back today with a special someone who I knew would also enjoy it. I think one of the first things I noticed as I entered was the music that was playing as I saw a big painting of a robotic city and remembered how much I would have loved to see that kind of art as a child and I think its cool to see how interested of it I still am. As we walked around and looked at all the paintings we noticed that in almost all of them there was the same little robot hidden in all of them and what I really liked about Walter Wicks stuff is that he turns them into games and makes them fun for everyone as we try to figure out how things work on the paintings or just try to find hidden items. I recomend that everyone go and experience the fun.

I'm glad you had a good experience there. I like how you described it and talked about a specific aspect that you found interesting.
ReplyDeleteThis is something that is considered pop art, these pictures are used in children's books, and yet it is displayed in a museum like high art. What do you think about this? What do you think the artistic value is of this exhibition?
Well I guess I am a little confused about the difference between pop art, high art and low art and what would give that title. I am definetly no professional. I found it interesting though and noted that if Walter Wick's art is for children, as if to say it is something on a lower scale, why so many adults were walking through the exhibit and as they did seemed all get excited and to truly enjoy their experiences. I think that all of us have an inner child in us, something that Walter Wick brings out quite a lot. Like I said before, my experience was great, I could say that his stuff is some of my favorite because it is fun for everyone, especially kids and if it can do that for everyone I think the artistic value is pretty great.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been to the exhibit yet. I plan on it later. I really like it when an artist really connects to his viewers through his work. It sounds like this artist does a great job at that.
ReplyDeleteI went to the Walter Wicks exhibit with my family a while ago. I too enjoyed it because it was interactive and really clever. It was neat to try and see all of the different things he Incorporated in his photographs.
